The Script

One night, a friend came over and ended up staying the night. We were bored... and the rest is history. This movie was started after the sun set and finished before it rose again.

It was also, interestingly enough, done a day before the first shoot date for End of the Order. Jeff, the friend, was originally going to be in the film, but had since been dropped from the cast list, and didn't know about the second attempt to get it off the ground.

Trivia

The movie is highly self-referential; the events up to 2:50 are completely true.

Train Memory

While testing out train models for a practical application in UCF, I played around with camera work with the set that I had inherited from my grandfather, then decided to set it to music. The song is "Late Goodbye" by Poets of the Fall.

Trivia

Some cars, like the hoppers, caboose, Santa Fe engines and the flatbeds with the searchlight, generator, and cable spools are at least half a century old, while others- like the steam locomotive, most of the passenger cars, and a couple boxcars- are only a decade old.

The Film Journal: TV Spot

In September of 2006, Andrew was required to create a television spot for a scholarly journal with others in a group. Of the three-person group, one dropped out of the class on the second day, so it was just Andrew and Mike Daly. They chose to create a commercial advertising for the online journal, The Film Journal. At least part of the commercial had to be filmed live in the television studio on campus.

Trivia

The in-studio footage was dubbed live onto a VHS, as was the prepared out-of-studio footage. The version that is available for download returns the prepared footage to its spot, taking out the intermediary VHS; however, the studio footage is inherently lower quality.

The idea of a mascot to take the place of the third person belonged to the professor, but the idea was fleshed out into the animated stuffed animal by Andrew.

With inexperienced classmates running the camera, you can't always ensure the best quality; and so the zoom-out at 0:43 had to be adjusted and cropped to get rid of another camera operator standing by for another angle.
